關鍵前提 — FYP 字數係 department-level 規則
學生問「FYP 字數要求係幾多」嘅時候，通常期望有一個全校統一答案。實際情況相反：香港各大學嘅 FYP、Honours Project、Capstone Project 字數、遲交扣分、評分比重，絕大部分寫在 department 或 programme 層級嘅 handbook / course guide 裡面，唔係大學 calendar 或 general regulations。同一間大學，兩個 department 嘅字數上限可以差 5,000 字，遲交扣分模式更加可以完全唔同。
所以本文唔會寫「香港大學 FYP 一般要 8,000 字」——呢類句子冇官方出處。下面每一個數字都附返 verbatim 原文同官方文件連結，而每一段都會明確標出係邊個 department、邊個學年版本。你要做嘅係：用同一套讀法，去讀你自己 department 份 handbook。
先睇一個最典型例子——EdUHK FEHD 將 Honours Project（HP）同 Capstone Project（CP）嘅 report 字數寫得非常具體，而兩者差距超過四倍：
HPII: A 10,000 to 13,000-Chinese character (or 6,000 to 8,000-English word) research report. CPII: A 2,400 to 4,000-Chinese character (or 1,500 to 2,500-English word) project report.
EdUHK FEHD — Final Year Project（Honours Project vs Capstone Project）
呢條條文帶出三個 practical implication：(1) 同一個 faculty 之內，你係做 HP 定 CP 決定字數量級；(2) 中文寫同英文寫嘅要求係分開列，唔係「中文字數 = 英文字數」；(3) 官方寫嘅係 range，唔係單一數字——即係 range 下限都算達標，唔需要硬寫到上限。

下面係我哋在公開文件搵到、有明確字數條文嘅 department。留意每行嘅文件年份——handbook 每年 revise，你要以你入學該年版本為準。

HKBU History 份 handbook 除咗字數，仲明確寫咗超字嘅後果——呢句係好多學生忽略嘅位：
The length of the text of the completed project will be 8,000–10,000 words in English or 10,000–15,000 characters in Chinese. In all cases, this excludes notes, bibliography, and appendices. Exceeding the word limit is not entertained and may result in score deduction.

「Exceeding the word limit is not entertained and may result in score deduction」——即係寫多唔係加分，係扣分風險。學生最常見誤解係「寫多啲 supervisor 見我用心」，但 handbook 講嘅係相反方向。真正被 reward 嘅係 在 word limit 內完成完整 argument，即係取捨能力。
HKBU Humanities & Creative Writing 除咗 final 字數，仲對 first draft 嘅長度有具體要求，呢個係 timeline 設計嘅關鍵資訊：
The length of the text of the completed project will generally be 7,000-10,000 words in English or 10,000-15,000 characters in Chinese, in both cases excluding footnotes, bibliography, and appendices. The submission has to be at least more than half in stated length of your completed thesis.

「at least more than half」呢句意味：first draft deadline 前你要有 3,500-5,000 字實質內容，唔係 outline。換算落 timeline：如果 final 係 4 月尾，draft 係 2 月中，即係第一學期結束前你已經需要完成 literature review + methodology 兩章。呢個節奏對兼讀學生特別緊——如果你已經落後於 draft deadline，FYP 分階段代寫服務可以由 chapter level 切入，先補返 draft 需要嘅一半篇幅，再逐章推到 final。
Lingnan Visual Studies 份 capstone handbook 用另一種寫法——字數寫在 learning outcome 條文裡面，同 proposal 字數分開列：

呢個係最高頻嘅實務問題，而官方答案幾間學校都一致：計字數只計正文。三份文件嘅 verbatim wording：
- HKBU History：「In all cases, this excludes notes, bibliography, and appendices.」
- HKBU HMW：「in both cases excluding footnotes, bibliography, and appendices」

三個 practical takeaway：
- Word count 要人手核：Word 個 word count 會連 footnote、reference list、table 一齊計。你要 select 正文範圍再睇 count，或者用 Word 嘅「exclude footnotes」設定，唔好直接交 status bar 個數字當達標
- HKBU HMW 特例：創作類 project 嘅 critical introduction 字數係計入總數（「The number of words used in this essay will be counted together with the content of the Honours Project」）——即係唔同 department 對「正文」定義唔一樣
- Appendix 唔係垃圾桶：正文寫唔落就搬去 appendix，marker 一睇就知。Appendix 應該放 raw data、instrument、transcript，唔係 argument
遲交扣分 — 四種完全唔同嘅 penalty model
「FYP 遲交扣幾多分」冇統一答案，但官方文件寫得非常清楚。我哋搵到四種結構完全唔同嘅模型，差異大到影響你 deadline 決策：

HKUST CE 份 guideline 除咗 1% 每日，仲寫明邊個有權批遲交——呢句係最多學生搞錯嘅位：
To be fair to those students who do so, those who submit late without prior permission from the Undergraduate Studies Committee will receive a penalty of 1% deduction per each day late from the total mark. This permission can only be granted by the Undergraduate Studies Committee, not by your project/thesis supervisor.
HKUST Civil & Environmental Engineering — FYP Guideline 2025-26
「This permission can only be granted by the Undergraduate Studies Committee, not by your project/thesis supervisor」——即係 supervisor 口頭講「遲少少冇問題」唔構成官方批准。要延期，需要向 committee 正式申請。
Lingnan 份 handbook 用時窗制，係最嚴格嘅一種——6 小時就開始扣：
Late Policy: Projects that are submitted after the deadline (but within 6 hours) will be marked down by 10% (A→A-); projects that are up to 48 hours late will be marked down by one letter grade (A→B); projects that are more than 48 hours late will receive the F grade.

HKBU HMW 用另一種——每日 5% 但有 5 日硬上限，過咗就係 0：
One day delay will mean a 5% deduction from the final grade, up to a maximum of 5 days delay. After the 5th day beyond the 26 April, 2024 deadline, the submission will receive 0 mark.

對比呢四種模型，你會發現一件事：「遲一日」嘅成本由 1 分到一個 letter grade 都有。所以你唔可以用「同學話遲兩日冇死」呢類 second-hand 資訊做決定——要打開你 department 份 handbook 逐字睇。
讀完呢六種扣分寫法，實務上你要做嘅係反過來計：由 final deadline 倒數，將「一日成本」乘落你手頭剩餘字數，就知自己有冇本錢押注通宵。如果數字對唔上，FYP 代寫服務可以由 chapter level 切入，按你 handbook 嘅字數 range 同章節結構分段交付；taught postgraduate 做 dissertation 就交由Thesis 代寫服務對接。
Extension 申請 — 邊個批、要幾早交
Extension 唔係「同 supervisor 講聲」，各校寫嘅程序具體到日數。Lingnan 寫兩個星期前：
Extensions: If a delay is reasonably expected, Final Project extensions should be requested from the Board of Examiners at least two weeks before the final deadline. Unexpected delays shall be evaluated on a case-by-case basis but must demonstrate extreme need. All extension requests should be properly motivated and include documentation when necessary.

HKMU 用日數分級授權——邊個批取決於你要幾多日：
Applications for extensions should normally be lodged before or on the due date. Supporting documents must be submitted to justify applications for extensions of over seven days. Applications are considered by: your tutor for extensions of up to seven days; the Course Coordinator for extensions of 8 to 21 days.

三個 pattern 值得記住：(1) 幾乎所有 extension 條文都要求 deadline 之前申請，事後追認唔係常規做法；(2) 七日以上通常要文件支持；(3) HKBU History 要求最早——「at least 48 hours before the deadline」就要書面通知 advisor 同 coordinator。即係如果你已經知道自己會遲，提早兩日通知係 handbook 明文要求，唔係人情。
評分比重 verbatim — proposal / report / presentation 佔幾多
知道比重，你就知道時間應該分配落邊。HKU DASE 嘅 B.Eng FYP 寫得最直白：
Proposal (5%); Interim Report (10%); Final Oral Presentation (15%); Final Report (70%). Communications and discussions with the supervisor are included in ALL components in the Assessment.

注意最後一句：同 supervisor 嘅溝通係融入所有 component 嘅評分，唔係獨立一格。即係「消失三個月然後交一份靚 report」在呢個 scheme 之下係扣分嘅。
HKUST CE 用 outcome-based 比重，四個 area 加埋 100%：
(i) Motivation and Task Management (PO10): weighted 20%; (ii) Knowledge Acquisition, Critical Thinking and Analysis (PO3/4, PO5, PO8): weighted 40%; (iii) Communication – Report (PO9): weighted 25%; (iv) Communication – Presentation (PO9): weighted 15%.
HKUST Civil & Environmental Engineering — FYP Guideline 2025-26
HKBU 兩個 department 都用 process / product 二分法，比重一致——20 / 80：
The assessment will be based on the following general quantitative division: “Process” 20%; “Product” 80%. The component parts involved in assessment of the product are as follows: Documentation 30%; Content and Argument 30%; Structure and Presentation 20%.

呢個 breakdown 有一個對學生極有用嘅訊息：「Documentation」（即係引用、註腳、bibliography 完整性同格式一致）佔 product 嘅 30%，同「Content and Argument」同等重量。換句講——referencing 唔係 cosmetic，係同 argument 一樣重嘅評分項。如果你內容已經齊但 citation 格式亂、in-text 同 reference list 對唔上，學術潤色服務可以逐條 verify APA / Harvard / Chicago 一致性，避免 documentation 呢 30% 白流。
HKMU BUS B859 用四份 assignment 累積制，presentation 佔兩成而且係硬性要求：
Assignment 1 (Weighting: 15%); Assignment 2 (Weighting: 15%); Assignment 3 (Weighting: 10%); Assignment 4 (Weighting: 40%); Oral presentation (Weighting: 20%). The oral presentation is deemed to be the compulsory assignment of the course. The pass mark for each assignment is 40.

格式同提交規格 — 字體、行距、PDF 要求
格式係最容易 100% 拿分、同時最容易 careless 失分嘅部分，因為條文寫到極具體。HKU DASE 直接借用研究生論文格式規例：
The thesis submitted for examination shall be typewritten or printed on one side or both sides of International size A4 paper, with a margin of not less than 35mm on both right and left-hand edges of each page. The line spacing of all text should be 1.5 or double-space. The fonts must be Times New Roman and 12 points in size.
HKU DASE — B.Eng. Final Year Project Handbook 2024-2025
HKUST CE 嘅規格唔同——margin 數字、雙面、裝訂都寫明：
Paper must be A4 size (210 x 297 mm). Reports must be typed, 1.5-spacing, double-sided. For the Final Report, margins must not be less than 25mm at the left edge, 20mm at the right edge before binding, 25mm at the upper edge, and 20mm at the lower edge. All sheets must be numbered (using word processor, not hand written).
HKUST Civil & Environmental Engineering — FYP Guideline 2025-26
兩份文件 side by side 睇就清楚：HKU DASE 要 35mm 邊、Times New Roman 12pt；HKUST CE 要 25/20mm 邊、雙面印。兩套規格互不相容——所以網上任何「香港 FYP 標準格式」template 都唔可以照套。
電子提交方面，CityU Library 對入館嘅 project report 有明確技術規格，同一份文件亦講清楚 submission 責任在 department：
The electronic format of the project reports should be text-embedded searchable Adobe PDF (portable document format) files. The Library will only accept selected undergraduate project reports sent by the Departments. Students must not make individual direct submissions to the Library.
CityU Library — Guidelines for Undergraduate Final Year Projects
「text-embedded searchable」呢個要求有實務含意：如果你將 Word 印出嚟再 scan 返 PDF，text layer 會冇——就唔符合規格。正確做法係由 Word 直接 export PDF。
Originality check 同引用要求
CUHK Engineering 嘅 ESTR4998/4999 條文將 originality check 寫成提交程序嘅一部分：
The thesis must be submitted to VeriGuide for checking. The thesis and the Academic Honesty Declaration Statement (both in electronic format) shall be submitted to both the thesis supervisor and the Faculty Office.
CUHK Engineering — ESTR4998/4999 Submission and Presentation

引用格式方面，HKU DASE 指定 Harvard，而且明確講 in-text 同 reference list 要一一對應：
Students should bear in mind that a citation in the text must always come with the source in the reference section, and vice versa. The style of the in-text citations and the section of references should follow the Harvard Referencing Style Guide.

「and vice versa」呢三個字係實際 marking 時最常被抓嘅位——reference list 有但正文冇 cite 過嘅條目，同正文 cite 咗但 list 冇嘅，兩邊都算 inconsistency。呢個檢查完全機械化，交前自己 cross-check 一次就唔會失分。
Supervisor 見面次數 — 官方寫得幾具體
好多學生以為 supervisor meeting 係彈性安排，但部分 handbook 寫到次數同時點：
During the capstone periods, the student and supervisor should meet at least six times (three times per semester): 1. An initial meeting to kick off the project; 2. A meeting after the project proposal is submitted; 3. A meeting including a work-in-progress presentation at the end of the first term; 4. A mid-year evaluation meeting near the start of the second term; 5. A meeting to check progress in the middle of the second term; 6. A meeting to review the draft of the dissertation/business proposal (2-3 weeks before the final submission).

對比其他 department：
- HKBU HMW：「report to your Chief Adviser at least once per month or as required by your Adviser」——每月一次係下限
- HKU DASE：「Meet the supervisor regularly (e.g., bi-weekly)」——寫成建議頻率，兩星期一次
- PolyU（COMP4913 subject description）：「The teaching/learning activities include regular project meetings with the supervisor」——寫 regular，冇 quantify
最值得抄落 timeline 嘅係 Lingnan 第 6 次會議嘅時點：final submission 前 2-3 星期 review draft。倒推返即係你「完成初稿」嘅內部 deadline 唔係交嘅日，而係交前三星期。大部分 FYP 崩盤都係因為冇設呢個內部 deadline。
Oral presentation 時間 verbatim
Presentation 佔比可以到 15-20%，而時間分配各校差異極大：

Each student will be allocated a time slot of 25 minutes for the final oral presentation, which consists of two parts: Presentation of the study (18-20 minutes); Q&A session (5-7 minutes).

HKMU 對 presentation 嘅條文最硬——係 compulsory、唔接受延期、缺席後果寫得非常明確：
The oral presentation must be conducted in English. The oral report does not accept extension applications. If you are absent from the oral report, you will automatically fail the course.

時間唔同，slide 密度就要唔同：10 分鐘場（Lingnan）同 40 分鐘場（HKUST CSE）根本係兩份完全唔同嘅 deck。將 8,000 字 dissertation 壓縮成 10 分鐘講稿係一項獨立技術——Presentation / Slides 製作服務會按你官方 slot 長度反推 slide 數同每頁講稿秒數，唔會出現「30 頁 slide 講 10 分鐘」呢種常見失分場面。
入 FYP / FYT 嘅門檻條文
唔係所有 project 你都揀得——部分 department 對 research-track thesis 設 CGA 門檻。HKUST CSE 寫得最清楚：
Students with CGA of 3.70 (A-) have the option to do an individual final year thesis (FYT) under the supervision of a faculty member. Students with strong research interests opting for the “Research Option” should do FYT. All requirements for the FYT and the deadlines for submission are the same as those for the FYP.
HKUST CSE — FAQ for Students (FYP/FYT 2025-2026)
同一份 FAQ 亦寫明 credit 結構同 early-taking 條件：
Final Year Project/Thesis is 6 credits. You will only receive the 6 credits when you receives the final grade. The credit load for FYP would be counted as 1 credit in Summer, 2 credits in Fall and 3 credits in Spring, even if the student takes leave during the FYP. For second year COMP/CPEG/DSCT students, the minimum requirement is 80 credits by the end of Spring 2025 with CGA at 3.0 or above.
HKUST CSE — FAQ for Students (FYP/FYT 2025-2026)
三個 takeaway：(1) FYP 係跨三個 term 嘅 6-credit course，唔係一個 semester 嘅 assignment；(2) CGA 直接決定你有冇 research-track option，所以想走 research 路線就要早幾年顧住 CGA——各校 GPA / CGA 計法可以睇我哋科大 CGA 規例解讀同中大 GPA 規例解讀；(3) Project 選擇有 deadline，冇按時 input choice 嘅後果 IEDA 份 guideline 寫得很直接：「students will be randomly assigned a project that is left over by the system」。
用官方文件反推你自己 timeline 嘅 5 步
- 先鎖定三個數字：正文字數 range、final deadline、遲交扣分模式。呢三樣決定你所有其他決定，而且一定寫在你 department 份 handbook（唔係大學 general regulations）
- 抄落所有中途 deadline：proposal、interim / progress report、draft、code / data submission、presentation。HKUST CSE 甚至有 monthly report deadline——中途 deliverable 通常各自有獨立扣分規則
- 設一個「交前三星期」內部 deadline：Lingnan 條文將第 6 次 supervisor meeting 定在 final submission 前 2-3 星期 review draft，呢個係 sector 常見節奏，就算你 department 冇寫都值得照做
- 用比重分配時間：如果你 scheme 係 final report 70%（HKU DASE）就唔應該用一個月執 slide；如果 documentation 佔 product 30%（HKBU）就要預兩至三日純做 referencing check
- 格式最後一日做、但唯讀你 department 條文：margin、行距、字體、PDF searchable、cover page 全部係 department-specific。呢啲位每個都係穩拿分，前提係唔照抄別校 template
做完 step 1 就發現字數同剩餘日數對唔上，係最常見情況。呢個唔係「勤力啲」可以解決嘅算式問題——Thesis / Dissertation 代寫同Coursework 代寫都可以按章節分段交付，令你每個 supervisor meeting 都有實質進度可以 show。
誠實列缺 — 搵唔到官方文件嘅位
- University-wide FYP 字數規定：八大之中冇一間搵到 university-wide 統一 FYP 字數條文——全部落在 department / programme 層級。任何「香港大學 FYP 標準字數」講法都冇官方出處
- HKU 全校 FYP 字數：「搵唔到官方文件」——DASE 份 B.Eng handbook 有格式同比重條文，但冇 quantify 字數；HKU CS 嘅 FYP 網頁亦冇公開字數 / 扣分條文
- PolyU 字數同遲交扣分：「搵唔到官方文件」——COMP4913、MM4913 等 subject description form 有寫 deliverable（proposal、mid-term progress report、final report）同 100% continuous assessment，但冇字數、冇 late penalty 數字
- CityU 字數：「搵唔到官方文件」——Library 份 guideline 明確講格式責任在 department：「Students should follow the guidelines and manuals as specified by the student’s own Faculty or Department when preparing their printed project reports」
- CUHK university-wide FYP 字數：「搵唔到官方文件」——ESTR4998/4999 有提交、遲交、VeriGuide、presentation 條文，但冇字數上限

Q1. FYP 一般要幾多字？
冇「一般」呢個答案——字數由你 department handbook 決定。公開文件搵到嘅範圍：EdUHK FEHD Honours Project 6,000-8,000 English words（或 10,000-13,000 中文字）、Capstone Project 1,500-2,500 English words；HKBU History 8,000-10,000 words；HKBU HMW 7,000-10,000 words；Lingnan Visual Studies capstone 6,000-8,000 words；HKMU BUS B859 最終報告 6,000-7,000 words。詳見六個 department 字數對照。
Q2. 字數計唔計 reference list 同 appendix？
搵到條文嘅 department 都係唔計。HKBU History：「this excludes notes, bibliography, and appendices」；HKBU HMW：「excluding footnotes, bibliography, and appendices」；HKMU：「excluding the title, table of contents, references and appendices」。詳見字數計唔計 references。
Q3. 寫多過上限會唔會有問題？
有 department 明文寫會扣分。HKBU History handbook verbatim：「Exceeding the word limit is not entertained and may result in score deduction」。其他 department 冇寫嘅位就係「搵唔到官方文件」，唔應該假設寫多冇成本。
Q4. FYP 遲交扣幾多分？
四種模型差異極大：HKUST CSE 5% per day；HKUST CE 1% per day；CUHK ESTR4998/4999 每個 calendar day 扣 2 marks；HKBU HMW 每日 5% 上限五日、第六日 0 mark；HKBU History 用 grade band（48 小時內扣三分之一個 grade）；Lingnan 6 小時內已扣 10%。詳見遲交扣分四種模型。
Q5. Supervisor 講「遲兩日冇問題」算唔算批准？
視乎 department，但至少 HKUST CE 明確寫唔算：「This permission can only be granted by the Undergraduate Studies Committee, not by your project/thesis supervisor」。安全做法係取得書面批准，唔係口頭默契。
Q6. Extension 要幾早申請？
Lingnan 要求 final deadline 前至少兩星期向 Board of Examiners 申請；HKMU 要求「normally be lodged before or on the due date」，超過七日要文件支持；HKBU History 要求 deadline 前至少 48 小時書面通知 advisor 同 coordinator。詳見Extension 申請程序。
Q7. Final report 佔成績幾多？
HKU DASE B.Eng：Final Report 70%、Presentation 15%、Interim Report 10%、Proposal 5%。HKUST CE 用四個 outcome area（20/40/25/15）。HKBU 兩個 department 用 process 20% / product 80%。HKMU BUS B859 四份 assignment 加 oral presentation 20%。詳見評分比重 verbatim。
Q8. Referencing 格式真係會影響分數？
會，而且比重唔細。HKBU History 將「Documentation」列為 product 評分嘅 30%，同「Content and Argument」等重。HKU DASE 指定 Harvard style，並要求「a citation in the text must always come with the source in the reference section, and vice versa」。
Q9. FYP 要用 Turnitin 定 VeriGuide？
取決於學校系統。CUHK Engineering 明文：「The thesis must be submitted to VeriGuide for checking」，並要一併提交 Academic Honesty Declaration Statement。其餘 department 在 FYP 層面用邊個系統大多「搵唔到官方文件」。想睇報告點讀可以參考Turnitin 相似度指南。
Q10. Oral presentation 有幾長？
Lingnan 10 分鐘；HKU DASE 25 分鐘 slot（講 18-20 分鐘 + Q&A 5-7 分鐘）；HKMU 25 分鐘 slot（講不多於 15 分鐘）；CUHK ESTR 30 分鐘 + 15 分鐘 Q&A；HKUST CSE 每組 40 分鐘 including Q&A。詳見presentation 時間對照。
Q11. CGA 唔夠可以做 research thesis 嗎？
HKUST CSE 條文寫明 CGA 3.70 (A-) 才有 individual FYT option，其餘做 FYP，而「All requirements for the FYT and the deadlines for submission are the same as those for the FYP」。其他 department 有冇類似門檻要查你自己 handbook。
